Dear reader,
Last spring, I decided I would walk from the southern end of Manhattan to my home in Harlem: eight winding miles through parks and neighborhoods, past restaurants and bars. I could hardly walk three feet without encountering another human. Around that same time, with almost comic timing, I received a note from the writer Andrew Altschul about walking across the entire European country of Liechtenstein—in three days. Yes, I was interested.
In May of 2023, Andrew traveled to the country—landlocked between Switzerland and Austria—to tackle the Liechtenstein Trail, which was inaugurated in 2019 to celebrate the country’s tricentennial.
